Maison de Sport® / The Maison
From Conversation to Collection
Made for Club® / A production guide
A clear path from your first idea to a finished collection.
For clubs and business partners exploring a collection with The Proper Label. Discover the twelve steps of garment production, see what each stage produces and understand where your input is needed.
This is an illustrative workflow for future projects, subject to the agreed project scope. The sequence, responsibilities and approval points are agreed for each order. Sampling may take several rounds, and some steps may run in parallel. Timing is confirmed around the agreed scope, available materials, required inputs and approvals.
From brief to handover
Explore each step for its purpose, output and approval check. All suggested roles are project-specific.
-
STEP 01 / 12
Prepare tech pack
Turn the idea into a shared, versioned brief.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Define the garment with technical drawings, measurements, materials, colours, artwork and finishing instructions.
- Output
- A versioned tech pack with open questions recorded.
- Suggested lead
- Design / product team
- Approval check
- Agree the brief and identify who can approve revisions.
-
STEP 02 / 12
Source sampling fabric and trims
Bring the material choices into view.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Order sample fabric, swatches and trims. Identify substitute materials clearly before they are used.
- Output
- A labelled set of sample materials and a record of any substitutions.
- Suggested lead
- Sourcing team
- Approval check
- Confirm sample choices; sample approval does not approve bulk materials.
-
STEP 03 / 12
Develop pattern
Translate the brief into cutting shapes.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Develop the base-size pattern and connect its construction details to the tech pack.
- Output
- A base-size pattern with identified pieces and revision references.
- Suggested lead
- Pattern maker
- Approval check
- Review the pattern against the current brief before sampling.
-
STEP 04 / 12
Create prototype
Make the first physical version.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Build an initial garment to review the design and construction. Record the changes it reveals.
- Output
- A prototype with a documented revision list.
- Suggested lead
- Sample room / design team
- Approval check
- Agree which design and construction changes move into the next sample.
-
STEP 05 / 12
Create fit sample
Test how the garment wears.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Review comfort, movement and measurements on the agreed fit reference. Record changes and resample where needed.
- Output
- A fit sample and a dated fit review.
- Suggested lead
- Technical fit lead / client
- Approval check
- The named approver signs off the base-size fit and the approved version.
-
STEP 06 / 12
Select final sample collection
Choose the pieces that move forward.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Select the styles, colours and details for the proposed collection. Keep remaining revisions visible and documented.
- Output
- A selected sample collection and a style-by-style revision record.
- Suggested lead
- Design / product team and client
- Approval check
- Confirm the selected versions and any conditions still to be resolved.
-
STEP 07 / 12
Confirm order and prepare production
Put the production requirements in place.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Confirm quantities by size and colour, destination, scope, commercial requirements and any required payment or licensing conditions.
- Output
- An agreed order specification and a production readiness checklist.
- Suggested lead
- Production coordinator / client
- Approval check
- Confirm required conditions and approvals before authorising the next stage.
-
STEP 08 / 12
Grade pattern
Build the agreed size range.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose
- Adapt the approved base pattern to the agreed sizes. Review grading and a size set where required by the project.
- Output
- Graded patterns and the agreed size specification.
- Suggested lead
- Pattern maker / technical fit lead
- Approval check
- Approve the size range and required size checks separately from base-size fit.
-
STEP 09 / 12
Pre-production sample
Set the reference for bulk.
Purpose, roles & approval

- Suggested lead
- Sample room / production coordinator
- Approval check
- Obtain named bulk-release approval for the agreed sample version.
-
STEP 10 / 12
Bulk production
Make the approved collection.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose

- Output
- The production run with recorded checks and any agreed corrective action.
- Suggested lead
- Production team / coordinator
- Approval check
- Address changes or nonconformities through the agreed approval process.
-
STEP 11 / 12
Quality control
Check the collection against the standard.
Purpose, roles & approval
- Purpose

- Output
- An inspection record with rework, exceptions or release decisions.

- Suggested lead
- Logistics / receiving team
- Approval check
- Check dispatch information and track confirmed receipt separately; shipping is not confirmed receipt.
Working together
A yes needs a clear meaning.
Record the approved version, the approver and the date. Design, fit, size range, quantity, licensing and payment are separate decisions; approval of one does not approve the others.
Quality control runs throughout the process. Revisions and unresolved questions should be documented before the next release. Any club marks or artwork require the permissions agreed for that project; this guide does not confirm licensing coverage or endorsement.
