How to measure your feetFit notes
Fit and comfort
Fits true to size. Choose your usual EU shoe size and adjust the lacing across the instep. There should be room for the toes to move without pinching at the sides.
Everyday wear
Try the pair indoors on a clean surface with the socks you intend to wear. Walk a few steps and check the heel, toe room and pressure across the instep before wearing outside.
Between sizes or unsure about width? Share the length of both feet, your usual EU size and the socks you plan to wear with our concierge.
How to measure your feet
- Stand on paper with your heel gently against a wall.
- Mark your longest toe. Measure A from the wall to this mark.
- Measure both feet, standing. Keep the longer measurement.

Product measurements
The Derby is offered in EU sizes 40–47. For heel height, insole length or width in your size, ask our concierge for the measurement you need.
Measure both feet while standing and keep the longer length. Foot length and insole length are different measurements; share which one you measured.

How to wear
Three ways to build a silhouette around the black lace-up Derby.
Tailoring
Pair with a black or charcoal suit and an open-collar shirt. A clean trouser break leaves the lacing and toe visible.
City
Wear with a straight or wide black trouser and a plain T-shirt or fine knit. Let the hem meet the top of the shoe.
Denim
Try dark straight-leg denim with a white shirt or knitwear. Keep the hem clear enough to show the Derby’s profile.
Care & longevity
A few considered gestures help the calf leather keep its suppleness and the shoe retain its shape.
Remove the dust
After wearing, brush away loose dust with a soft shoe brush, then wipe gently with a clean, dry cloth. For a light surface mark, use a barely damp cloth without soaking the leather, then let it dry naturally.
Nourish sparingly
When the leather feels dry, apply a small amount of a care product suitable for smooth calf leather to a cloth. Test first on a discreet area, follow the product instructions, and finish with a clean soft cloth. Avoid household cleaners and abrasive products.
Let the pair rest
Allow damp shoes to dry at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sunlight. Let the leather rest between wears. Use well-fitting shoe trees to support the shape, and store the fully dry pair in its protective pouch.
Look after the sole
Check the sole and heel regularly. Ask a trusted cobbler about wear before it reaches the upper, and discuss any protective sole or repair with our concierge. Avoid prolonged contact with water.
For a stain, treatment or repair question, send the Atelier a clear photograph of the affected area before applying a new product.
Styling notes
Use the lace-up profile to finish a clean trouser line. Tailoring, denim and relaxed black trousers each give the Derby a different setting.

Orders placed before 12:00 PM EST will ship the same business day.
Orders placed after 12:00 PM EST will ship the following business day.
Orders placed after 5:00 PM EST on Friday or during the weekend will be processed and shipped the following Monday.

Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. Original shipping charges are non-refundable. We will provide a return shipping label.
If a refund is issued, return shipping costs may be deducted where applicable.

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email confirming that we have received your returned item.
We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.

If your refund is approved, you may choose to receive your refund either as store credit or back to the original payment method.
Refund Processing Time
Please note that refunds can take up to 10 working days to appear on your account due to varying processing times between payment providers.
TAXES, DUTIES, AND INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
United States and Canada
If your order was sent to a destination within the United States or Canada, all sales taxes will be refunded.
Orders Outside the United States and Canada
Customs duties and sales taxes are non-refundable through The Proper Label. However, you may be able to recover these amounts by contacting your local customs bureau or by hiring a customs broker.
Australia
If your order was sent to Australia, you will receive a refund of duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST).
